The hatha yoga is the practice of yoga most widely known around the world, for its asanas (or body positions). These are a set of exercises whose purpose is to ensure that the body is suitable for meditation. The asanas generate physical and mental calmness, so that the devout yogi can sit for hours in a meditation posture without fatigue or restlessness. Currently, the hatha yoga emphasizes relaxation. One of its main asanas is the padmasana (or 'lotus position') and 'greeting to the sun (Surya namaskar).
